Cultural heritage and war: experience and conclusions of 225 days

Ukraine, jointly with Poland, will implement a project to monitor the state of cultural heritage landmarks, in particular, archeology... Kateryna Chuyeva, Deputy Minister of Culture and Information Policy announced the continuation of cooperation with international partners at a briefing "Heritage and War: Experience and Conclusions of 225 Days". According to her, one of the projects that will be implemented in the near future is a Polish-Ukrainian initiative in the field of monitoring and documenting damage to cultural, in particular, archaeological heritage landmarks. The project will cover two regions - Kyiv and Chernihiv, with the involvement of local archaeologists. The initiative will be implemented jointly by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of Poland and the National Institute of Cultural Heritage of Poland. "For us, such projects are very important, as many countries, including Poland, have experience in working with heritage in hot spots, for example, in the Middle East, with destroyed or damaged landmarks. They also have appropriate monitoring and recording methodologies. Until this year, Ukraine did not carry out such monitoring, so the exchange of experience with counterparts from other countries is extremely important to us,"- Kateryna Chuyeva said. The Deputy Minister also identified the key challenges faced by the Ministry in the preservation and management of cultural heritage during the war, outlined the prospects for necessary changes and priority steps in this area, thanked the volunteers and partners with whom the MCIP is cooperating in order to collect information on damage and destruction of cultural heritage landmarks.
