President Macron presented the Pope with a stolen book from Lviv?
French President Emmanuel Macron, during his visit to Italy, presented Pope Francis with the first French edition of Immanuel Kantˋs book “Eternal World” from 1796. The book is printed in Polish, which shows that the book belongs to the Academic Reading Room in Lviv. In Poland, the pictures of the unique book caused lively controversy. Robert Pszczel from the Polish Institute of International Relations drew attention to thefact that the copy was once owned by the library of the Polish University in Lviv. Also, some assumed that Immanuel Kantˋs “Eternal World” was taken from Lviv during World War II. Swiss investigative journalist Arno Beda believes that the book could havebeen bought at the Parisian bookstore Hatchuel for 2,500 euros. The storeˋs websitesays that the book has been in French collections for a long time. In the early 1900s, it belonged to the Parisian bookseller Lucien Beaudin. Polish official Arkadiusz Mularczyk recommends that the diplomatic services seek clarification from the French authorities in order to find out the history of this book.
